India has one of the largest IT sectors across the globe. Indian IT industry plays a vital role in nurturing the economy of India and fluctuations in IT industry certainly influence the GDP of India. Every year, thousands of students becomes graduate and aspire to make their career in IT industry.
This is the time where Indian IT employees have faced biggest hurdle and loss to their career. The news of Infosys, TCS, Wipro , Cognizant laying off hundreds of employees has made international headlines recently and has created much chaos among IT employees. Tech Mahindra, India’s fifth largest IT company in India is next in line which has laid off 1,000 employees. After being asked with all these top firms they said” It is not new, Every year we terminate employees based on their annual performance appraisal“. Some employees who lost their job says we are much experienced and have been working for long but we have been given poor and unfair rating in the annual performance appraisal. This is indeed unfair and injustice to us without any prior notice.
The reason behind such an obnoxious behaviour by top IT players is certainly the Trump’s leverage. Donald Trump, the current USA president had already announced the changes in the rule of hiring workers on H1B visa from other countries. India is one country which sends highest number of employees to USA on H1B visa every year. According to news, Trump is focusing to hire local american citizens first to make sure that american citizens have 100 percent job security. Trump raised the compensation from $60,000 to $1,20,000. Now, if any Indian firm wishes to send any of his employee to USA then the employers will be required to pay just double which is $1,20,000 annually.
This restricted the Indian IT firms to send their employees to USA on H1B visa and coerced them to hire local american resident there in USA only. Since requirement of employees in USA is always on top so Indian firms are left with no option other than terminating their employees from India in order to balance the figure and ensure profitable outcome
Following the same news, Many employees had approached FITE (Forum of IT employees) and FITE asked Tamil Nadu and Telangana governments to look into this matter and assist the employees to get their job again
N. R. Narayana Murthy, the great and sublime industrialist who is a co-founder of India’s second largest IT company, Infosys recently gave his view for the current lay off by top IT companies in India. He said ” Indian software companies must recruit American residents in the US, Canadians in Canada, British people in Britain etc. That’s the only way, we can become a true multi-national company and in order to do that, we should stop using H1-B visas and sending a large number of Indians to those countries to deliver services,”
Let’s make a way out where we do not need to lean on other countries like USA to run and grow our business
