Salman Khan Sentenced to 5 Years in Jail, Fined Rs10K in Blackbuck Poaching Case

On Thursday, Jodhpur court delivered the verdict of the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. In the 19 years long-pending case Salman Khan was convicted whereas Sonali Bedre, Saif Ali Khan,  Tabu and Neelam were given the benefit of doubt and acquitted. The court sentenced him to five years in prison and fined Rs 10,000

He will be sent to Jodhpur Central jail which already has rape accused godman Asaram, Rajsamand’s hate-murder accused Shambhu Lal Raigar, and gang men of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who once threatened to kill Salman.

According to the reports Salman Khan hunted the blackbucks down in Jodhpur, Rajasthan in September 1998 while shooting for a Bollywood movie ‘Hum Sath Sath Hain’. In addition, he is also accused of using two firearms with alleged expired licences. He also hunted another Chinkara just a couple of days after he had targeted his first two.

Nearly 28 witnesses from the prosecution side were produced for examination. The trial in the case started in the chief judicial magistrate court in May 2013.

Salman can apply for bail from the sessions court.
