Since 2012, India had not lost a Test at home, and in that stretch of 20 matches they been held to a draw. Last time when Australia toured India for Tests they were defeated by 4-0.

Australia entered into this match having lost their past 9 Test matches in India. Not even the days of Gilchrist, McGrath and Warne had Australia won a Test in India since 2004. This result was also not even seen by Nostradamus also.

On a tuning dry pitch that is so capable to Indian Spinners, only Steven Smith scored hundred in the match.  Steve O’Keefe took that much wickets in the match as R. Ashwin and R. Jadeja took combined. Australia not only beat India but they humiliated them. In fact, 12 for 70 were best figures ever   by a visiting spinner in a Test in India.

Australia heaped Indian team at score of 105 in 1st innings and 107 in 2nd innings. It was the least runs scored by India ever in a Test at home.

Australia had a victory by 333 runs and this credit goes to an outstanding left-arm spinner O’Keefe. His accuracy and ability turn some deliveries made Australia win this match. Also Smith did a remarkable job with 109 runs in 2nd innings.

In the Test in Pune, Smith’s 109 were more than the entire India team scored in either of their innings helped to ensure Australia’s victory. It was his 18th Test hundred and fifth in consecutive Tests against India, and his first on Indian soil.

Smith, made the most of his luck that dropped three times on the second day and still resumed on the third morning on 59, with lead that already standing at 298. He batted both sides freely of the wicket and mould partnerships of consequences with the players in middle and lower order. When he was lbw by Jadeja, he already did a great job by scoring a good score for his team.

This was the 10th Test of India at home ground.  It would be natural that they might show signs of exhaustion but still there are 3 more Test matches has to go in this series. India must have to find a way to revive up quickly.

The wicket of Virat Kohli manifest India’s uncertainty against O’Keefe, he balled confident to turn ball away from him, and failed to detect that this one was going on with the arm. Kohli lost his off stump. Ajinkya Rahane went driving a catch to cover off O’Keefe, and Ashwin followed lbw on review.

O’Keefe broke through in his first over when he skidded one on to trap Vijay lbw.  Both openers were gone within 6 over. They also had a review but none was in favor of India.

Wriddhiman Saha also lbw to an O’Keefe skidder, he kept rapping them after tea break, in front with straight balls.

At this stage, O’Keefe took 12 wickets in match and a great chance of overtaking Ian Botham’s 13 wickets by any visiting player in India. Other 3 wickets were taken by Lyon. Jadeja was bowled and trying to cut, Ishant Sharma caught at leg gully, and Jayant Yadav gloved a catch to Matthew Wade. This lead to result that no one was expecting in their dreams.
