Facebook is the most loved social networking application across the globe. Recently, we came to know about how to do mobile recharge on Facebook. During the company’s F8 developers conference keynote held in San Jose, CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is adding a dating layer to its main mobile app.
The 14 years old Facebook has allowed users to broadcast whether they’re single or in a relationship since it first went live in February 2004. Now Facebook is going to launch a dating feature which will help its users to find their soul mate. Zuckerberg also assured that the team will take care of the privacy issues before launching the feature.
“Potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, things in common, and mutual friends. They’ll have the option to discover others with similar interests through their Groups or Events.”
After the recent data scandal, Facebook has become really careful about the privacy. Zuckerberg said,
“There are 200 million people on Facebook who list themselves as single. This dating feature will build some long term and real relationships and won’t be solely for hookups.”
It’s going to be within the main Facebook app, but it will be completely optional and opt-in only. We have designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning. Your friends aren’t going to see your profile, and you’re only going to be suggested to people who are not your friends.
Chris Cox, the product chief at Facebook said that it would have some amazing dating features. The profiles would be similar to that of Bumble and Tinder i.e. photos and full page profile. But he said, “FACEBOOK’S TAKE ON DATING IS MORE COMMUNITY-FOCUSED, WITH INTEGRATIONS FOR THE EVENTS AND GROUPS YOU’RE A PART OF ON THE PLATFORM.”
Cox also added that this would have an “Unlocking” feature through which the profile can be made visible to members of other groups and events. One can chat in different chat threads which would be separate from that of Messenger.
Here’s how Facebook dating will work:
- Opt in to a create a profile with just your first name. Your profile won’t be visible to friends, users who aren’t on the dating feature, and it won’t show up in the News Feed.
- You’ll browse Events in your city and Groups that match your interests. You can select to “unlock” one for dating. You’ll then see the profiles of other dating users who’ve unlocked that surface.
- You can browse through people’s profiles that show off a few of their photos plus some basic information about them. You’ll be shown people based on mutual interests and friends, plus other data Facebook has on you.
- If you both are interested, you’ll be able to start a conversation with someone in a special inbox that’s separate from Messenger and WhatsApp. For safety, only text can be sent for now.
